HELPFUL NOTES
*After a chain or turning chain you will always work next stitch in same stitch as chain unless otherwise
indicated.
*When the pattern says “join” it means to join with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning stitch of round
or row
*When you see ** followed by a number, that is indicating the number of stitches you should have done in
that row or round, not including chains or slip stitches.
*Instructions within brackets [ ] are a set and need to be done the total number of times indicated after
the brackets. A set also can be done all in one stitch if indicated after the brackets.
*If you are not familiar with a magic loop (magic circle) then you can start with a ch 2 and SC the
indicated number of sts in 2nd ch from hook. Or you can refer to YouTube tutorials.

way around to the beginning of the round. Your sl st should
be in the bottom center st. The bottom of the dragon's body is
the flat part. If for some reason your slip st does not seem to
be centered on the bottom, just do more or less SC in this
round until you end in the bottom center) **27 sts
***From this point on you will no longer be working in
continuous rounds. Be sure to crochet your sl sts loosely in
rounds 91-117 so that it will be easier to work your stitches in
them in the rounds that follow. For these rows I will be
counting the (non-joining) sl sts in the final stitch count.

UNDERSIDE OF BODY -Use I hook and gold (if you do not
use a thinner worsted weight yarn as suggested, you will
need to use a smaller hook to compensate or this part will not
fit on the dragon correctly). See Figure B for how the
underside should look when you're finished.

Leaving a 4” tail to start, Ch 1 and pull it tight. Then ch 3 and
pull the last one tight (you will have a ch 4 with the first and
last chains being smaller (or “closed”). Cut yarn leaving a 4”
tail at the end. Lay chain over eye, running down the center. Pull top tail down through the back loop of the top center stitch
and pull bottom tail down through the back loop of the bottom
center stitch. Tie the two ends in back securely. Do not pull
too tight before tying or the eye will be misshaped. (See
Figures C & D). Cut ends short so they will be hidden under
eye when eye is sewn on.

ASSEMBLY
STEP 1 : Pin underside of dragon to the main part of dragon.
Line up the head pieces and place the underside directly
down the center of the bottom of the dragon. It does not
matter if it doesn't reach all the way to the end of the tail. Sew
on with whipstitch using one tail to sew up one side of the
body and the other tail to sew down the other side of the body.
Stuff head before you sew up the last couple of inches of the
head.
STEP 2 : Sew horns to the top of the head with whipstitch
going all the way around twice for extra security. I like to
angle mine slightly back and out (See Figure I for placement)
STEP 3 : Sew on eyes with backstitch & sew eyebrows with
backstitch right at the top of the eyes
STEP 4 : Place nostrils near the front of the head and line the
straight edge of the nostril up with the edge of the head (the
diagonal part). Do not sew them on flat. Squeeze sides of
nostrils slightly together so they stand up off the head & sew
around the rounded part of nostrils with whipstitch
STEP 5 : Pin spikes down the center of the body starting at the
top of the neck. Whipstitch all the way along both sides of the
spikes. (It is fine if they don't quite reach the end of the tail)
STEP 6: Sew feet to legs with whipstitch using the tails from
the feet. See Figures J and K to see how they fit together.
Sew legs on each side of the body with whipstitch using tails
from the legs (you will sew all the way around the top half of
each leg. See FIgure L for placement).
Copyright © 2014 BriAbby HMA 10Figure I Figure J
Figure K

STEP 7: Sew tail spade underneath the end of tail with point
facing away from tail (See Figure M)
STEP 8 : Pull tail through stitches of wing claws from the point
to the bottom. Pull it tight until the claw curves. Sew wing
claws on at the point of each wing. Pin wings on each side of
the body and sew on with whipstitch (See Figure N). You will
want to sew around a couple of times so the wings will be
more securely attached. . .
