Materials:
Approx 80g grey yarn, double knitting weight.
Approx 10g cream yarn, double knitting weight.
Note: double knitting weight is equivalent to light worsted, although

weight of yarn throughout.

Small amount of black yarn for nose and whiskers.
Optional: small amount of green yarn to make leaf.
Stuffing.
1 pair 9 mm safety eyes.
Tapestry needle.

Finished size: approximately 9" tall.

Notes:
The grey Totoro is made in rounds. Do not join roun ds unless told
to, use a stitch marker to mark the start of a roun d - a small piece
of different coloured yarn placed under the stitch at the start of the
round will do. To start a round, you can use the ma gic ring method,
but I prefer (ch2, work 6 sc into 1
st ch). If you work the 6 sc over
the tail of yarn as well you can use that to pull t he hole tight.
Whichever you use, always make sure that there is n o hole in the
first round before you continue.
The Totoro needs to be stuffed firmly to keep its s hape. Start
stuffing the body when it is about three-quarters m ade. A large
shape like this takes a lot of stuffing, but keep w orking at it, putting
in a bit at a time, and pushing it towards the top. You may find
something like the handle of a large wooden spoon i s useful to push
it in firmly. Finish most of the stuffing when the hole is still big
enough to get your fingers in, then complete it jus t before you sew
up the hole at the bottom.

Using white yarn.
Ch 3, work 9 hdc into 1
st ch, join with ss into 1st hdc, FO, leaving a

Or cut circles out of white felt approx. 20mm acros s, and snip a
small hole in the centre.
